Questions to ask at Social Security Town Meeting?
Fri Feb 25, 2005 at 09:09:49 AM PDT
Hello! And HELP!
Our Republican Congressman is having a series of Town Meetings starting tomorrow. He doesn't say they are about Social Security, but since he has NEVER made this kind of concerted effort before with town meetings, I'm guessing that's the agenda.
Anyway, we are looking for good, thoughtful, serious, weasel-proof questions to ask him. There are a lot of smart, well-informed people here and I thought some of you might be willing to help or point me in the right direction.
Please save your rants and sarcasm for another thread! I share your sentiment, believe me, but we want to be as effective as we can be.
I understand that there are relatively few of these town meetings to be found throughout the country--Bush is finding his cohorts somewhat skittish, it would seem--so look on this as an opportunity you may have been denied. What would you ask your congressman? What point would you like to make, what issue would you like to bring to the public's attention?
Thanking you in advance....
Prominent Republicans who have endorsed Kerry?
Tue Oct 05, 2004 at 11:47:47 AM PDT
I'm a precinct captain in a predominantly Republican area. (if we get more than 40% in any election, it's a miracle.) Reading about McCain's communication director crossing over to the good side, gave me an idea. You can tell me if it's a good one or not:
I would like to make a sign of all the various prominent Republicans who are voting for Kerry and post it at my polling place. Something respectful, not in-your-face, just a "hey, look, these Republicans are putting country before party, why don't you?" sort of thing. Or "take back the Grand ol' Party from these freaking crazies before it's too late!" kind of thing
So, naturally, I come to Kos. Help me out, people, please. Names of all prominent Republicans who are voting for Kerry. Generals, admirals, politicians, celebrities, etc. Or is there a place where this is already listed?
My original thought was to get one of those Bush dolls in a flight suit and have a banner that says "Quagmire accomplished" but I thought that might be a bit much. My wish is not to piss anyone off or make them defensive; I'm hoping to find some staunch Republicans with genuine feelings of unease and work on them at the very last minute, hopefully convincing them that voting for Kerry is the right thing to do.
